Pulp Circus
Pulp Circus unites like-minded people to eat, drink, and read out-loud. We sometimes depart from our typical salons to host variety shows, plays, live music, listening parties, movie marathons and other strange adventures. (A salon is a gathering of people held partly to amuse one another and partly to refine taste and increase their knowledge of the participants through conversation.)

Shannequin
Shannequin, The Shannon Green & Andrew McCarthy Joint Birthday Party: As a young girl, Shannon loved Andrew McCarthy so much that she was glad when Ducky didn’t win the heart of Molly Ringwald... that really proves her love for her number one childhood sweetheart. And now it’s your turn to show the same devotion! With this pop-up card invite you’ll be admitted to a birthday celebration duet! She’s turning 39 and he’s turning 50! There will be music and fun for all, and hold on to those red ticket stubs because we’ll be raffling off several great themed prizes! Andrew McCarthy was invited… but did not show.
The Maker's Faire That Ate My Brain!
This was an extension of the previous months Zine Fest. I thought by opening the exhibition to other types of makers we could expand on what it means to make art for the love of it. This exhibition hosted over 16 different vendors, from painters, to craftspeople, we had zines, and curios, political action groups and POC communities, children’s book authors, 13 year old cartoonist Oliver Saitz showcased his artwork, and Quimby’s Bookstore sold handmade art from around the globe. *Images by istock/RichVintage.
Top 40 Salon
On March 30th, 2015, I turned 40, technically over the hill. Pulp Circus threw a reading salon incorporating music as well as reading. Guests brought a CD with their favorite music which was ripped to a computer that was playing the playlist throughout the night. Randomly people would volunteer to read aloud from something about music., and I raffled off about 200 dollars in prizes, consisting of my favorite books, comics, movies, TV shows, and of course: music.
Late of Pablo Fanque's Fair Salon Royale
For the benefit of Mr. Kite there will be a show tonight on trampoline. The Hendersons will all be there, late of Pablo Fanques Fair, what a scene! Over men and horses’ hoops and garters, lastly through a hogshead of real fire! In this way Mr. K. will challenge the world! The celebrated Mr. K. performs his feat on Saturday at Bishopsgate. The Hendersons will dance and sing as Mr. Kite flies through the ring, don't be late! Messrs. K and H assure the public their production will be second to none, and of course Henry the Horse dances the waltz!
Tiny Apartment
I once lived in a very tiny apartment. You could lay down on the floor, and your feet would touch the front door, and your hands could reach the bedroom doors. Somehow an evil genius was able to just barely make this a two bedroom apartment. I decided to throw a salon in this impossible space and invite about 5 times as many people than could comfortably fit into the rooms. We had a blast.

The Intoxicating Zine Fest
The Intoxicating Zine Fest was the first zine fest I’d ever attempted to put on. This zine fest is open to the public and admission is free, even the tables for the exhibitors are free... I tried to do something different: exhibitor’s portfolios would not be reviewed; it was on a first come/first reserved basis. Zines, books, comics, poetry, and hand-crafted art by a dozen local artists at Sanger Hall in Sunnyside Queens. www.sangerhall.com
Pulp Circus 42
7” by Marc Calvary, age 9: On March 30th 2017 I turned 42, Douglas Adams said 42 was the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. I thought since I have no musical ability, it was the answer of how I could finally press a record, after which this inspired me to keep making records. I found a tape cassette of improv horror stories I acted out and recorded when I was a kid. I cut the 90 minute tape down to 4 minutes and had them lathe cut to 180gm vinyl as 7" records. This was the invite to the record listening party for Pulp Circus, and I doubt anything will be as fun to make. Yes, that's me at 18 mo. wearing my grandma's wig.
